Representative Gil Cisneros (CA-39) Endorses Dave Min (SD37) for State Senate

Irvine, Calif. —TODAY, Dave Min, UC Irvine law professor and candidate for California’s 37th State Senate District, was endorsed by Representative Gil Cisneros of California’s 39th Congressional District, which encompasses part of the 37th State Senate District.

Cisneros made headlines last year while running for Congress by rejecting all corporate PAC money and running a grassroots campaign as a political outsider. Cisneros, who won the California Lottery and started a foundation to assist disadvantaged students and help veterans attend college, is the son of a public school cafeteria worker and Vietnam veteran. Cisneros served admirably in the United States Navy, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander, and currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee and Committee on Veterans Affairs.

Cisneros’ endorsement comes on the heels of Min’s announcement that he has raised over $100,000 in less than one month since declaring his candidacy.

“For too long, career politicians have used political offices as step ladders to advance their own careers, and not advance the priorities of voters,” said Rep. Cisneros. “Until we decide as a party to promote new voices from within our community, our promise of true representative government will ring hollow in Washington D.C. and Sacramento. That’s why I’m throwing my full support behind Dave Min for California State Senate District 37. Dave represents exactly the kind of new leadership that I’ve been calling for ever since I announced my candidacy for Congress- leadership that reflects the diversity of Southern California, diversity in life experience, and diversity in expertise. He will put his unique economic policy background to work to ensure our state remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family. He’s the partner I need working with me in Sacramento, and I am proud to endorse him.”

Rep. Cisneros joins the growing ranks of notable leaders who have declared their support for Dave Min, including U.S. Congressional Representatives Ted Lieu, Alan Lowenthal, Judy Chu, Scott Peters, and Mark Takano; California Democratic Party Secretary Jenny Bach; the Newport-Mesa teachers; and many others.

“It means a great deal to me to receive the endorsement of Rep. Cisneros,” said Min, “whose historic campaign last cycle has shown Orange County residents of all backgrounds what we can accomplish when we rally around our shared goals, such as quality public education, addressing climate change, and women’s rights. In Sacramento, I will work tirelessly with Rep. Cisneros as he continues the fight in Congress to stand up to special interests and champion everyday Americans.”

Cisneros’ endorsement adds to a broad and growing coalition of early supporters of Min’s State Senate run. Since announcing his candidacy on January 8th, Min has been endorsed by a number of elected officials, local activists, and organizations, including:
