Dave Min Announces Candidacy for California State Senate District 37
Announcement Comes With Broad Coalition of Support From State, Local and Grassroots Leaders
Irvine, Calif.— Today, Dave Min, a UC Irvine law professor and economic policy expert, announced his candidacy for California’s 37th State Senate District, which is currently held by Donald Trump supporter John Moorlach.
“I’m running for State Senate to build a brighter economic future for all 37th District families, and to provide them with representation that reflects our values and priorities.”
“As a husband and father, I believe we need to focus on universal health care, protecting our environment, ending the gun violence epidemic, building more affordable housing, and protecting our immigrant communities from the disastrous policies of the Trump administration.”
“At a time when California is providing leadership to the country, communities across the 37th District have been denied the representation they deserve.”
“I look forward to putting my economic expertise and years of experience to providing practical solutions, and restoring common sense and decency to this office.”
Min’s campaign has already garnered the endorsements of elected officials and activist leaders from across Southern California, ranging from Congressional Representatives to community leaders.
“Now more than ever, we need California to provide thoughtful progressive leadership to the country as we face the immoral and corrupt policies of the Trump Administration,” said Ted Lieu, Representative for California’s Congressional 33rd District. “Dave has devoted his entire career to the goal of ensuring economic opportunities for people from all backgrounds and I’ve seen firsthand how dedicated, passionate, and principled he is in this cause. I’m endorsing Dave Min for State Senate because I know he will be the partner I need in Sacramento to help California stand up to Donald Trump and lead the way for the rest of the country.”
“Orange County families deserve someone who takes the effort to understand the many different needs of our diverse communities and is willing to fight for our values, such as investing in affordable education opportunities for our kids and keeping our environment clean and safe for generations to come,” said Aliso Viejo City Councilwoman Tiffany Ackley. “At the same time, it’s important that we elect local leaders who will stand up for decency, dignity, and true gender equality at a time when too many of our elected politicians seek to demean and discriminate against women, denying them equal pay for equal work and safe work environments and wielding in sexist and demeaning rhetoric. Dave Min is outstanding in meeting all of these criteria– which is why I’m excited to lend him my support for State Senate.”
“I am backing Dave Min as the clear progressive choice for this seat. I’ve seen his dedication to fighting on behalf of Orange County families for universal healthcare, communities that are safe from gun violence, and protecting women’s rights,” said Alan Lowenthal, Representative for California’s 30th Congressional District. “As an educator myself, I’m impressed by Dave Min’s commitment to improving educational opportunities for Southern California students. And as the Co-Chair of the Congressional Safe Climate Caucus, I am excited about the prospect of working with Dave as he continues his outspoken leadership on efforts to create a green economy and reverse climate change trends.”
“Dave Min is uniquely qualified to protect Californian families from the harmful and dangerous environmental policies of the Trump Administration,” said RL Miller, Chair of the California Democratic Party Environmental Caucus. “We need Dave’s experience, policy chops, and leadership in Sacramento to ensure a safe and healthy climate for future generations.”
David Min is a University of California Irvine Law Professor, father of three, and a former economic policy staffer in the United States Senate and for the Center for American Progress. Min began his legal career at the Securities and Exchange Commission to protect the retirement security of seniors, turning down high paying jobs to serve the public interest. He is a leading expert on banking and housing policy.
California State Senate District 37 is located in Orange County and includes the communities of Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Foothill Ranch, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, Newport Beach, Orange, Tustin, and Villa Park.
